Maternity Boudoir: A Love Letter to This Season of You

Maternity boudoir photography is about more than beautiful images. It’s about honoring your body during one of the most transformative seasons of your life.

There’s something about pregnancy that feels like time is moving too fast and too slow all at once.

One minute you’re taking in the news, the next you’re folding tiny clothes and wondering how your body did all of this. And somewhere in between, your body is changing daily…stretching, softening, growing, carrying. It’s powerful. It’s surreal. And honestly? It’s worth remembering.

That’s where maternity boudoir comes in.

Not in a “perfect, posed, magazine” way, but in a real, grounded, this-is-my-body-doing-something-incredible kind of way.

Why Maternity Boudoir Is So Special

A maternity boudoir session isn’t about trying to look a certain way or fit into what pregnancy is “supposed” to look like. For me, it’s just about paying attention to this moment while you’re in it. Your body is changing fast. Some days you feel strong, some days you’re tired, some days you don’t recognize yourself at all, and all of that is real.

I didn’t have the opportunity to do a maternity boudoir session when I was pregnant. That was 13 years ago, and photography, and the way we talk about bodies, has changed a lot since then. Looking back, I wish I had something that showed what that season actually felt like, not just a few rushed photos or memories that blur together now.

When I photograph maternity boudoir now, I’m not trying to create something over-styled or dramatic. I’m thinking about what it would’ve meant to me to have images that felt quiet, honest, and intentional. Something that says, this was me, right here, before everything changed.

A lot of clients tell me they’re nervous before their session. They’re not sure they’ll feel confident or comfortable, and that makes sense. But almost everyone says the same thing afterward- they’re really glad they did it. Not because the photos are perfect, but because they captured a moment they would’ve otherwise let pass by.

When to Book a Maternity Boudoir Session

The sweet spot for maternity boudoir photography is usually between 28–30 weeks, when your bump is beautifully round, but you’re still able to move comfortably. That said, every pregnancy is different, and there’s no “wrong” time if it feels right to you.

Just remember: You don’t need to wait until you feel “ready” or have everything figured out.
You just need to show up as you are.

We’ll style it together—soft fabrics, bare skin if you want, cozy or bold or romantic. This is your session, and it’s designed to feel safe, supportive, and deeply personal.

On the day of your session I will be sure to check in with you along the way to make sure you are comfortable, hydrated and enjoying yourself.

From Maternity to Postpartum: Your Story Doesn’t End Here

I want to say this…because it matters.

Pregnancy isn’t the end of your story with your body. It’s a transition.

After birth, your body changes again. And postpartum can be beautiful, raw, emotional, and complicated all at once. That’s why postpartum boudoir holds such a special place in my heart, and why I was honored to be featured in The Huffington Post for my postpartum boudoir work.

Postpartum boudoir isn’t about “bouncing back.”
It’s about honoring everything your body has been through, and everything it still deserves.

If maternity boudoir is a love letter to becoming, postpartum boudoir is a love letter to healing, reclaiming, and rediscovering yourself.

Some clients book maternity sessions and come back postpartum. Some wait. Some do both. There is no right or wrong timeline, only what feels right for you.

Your body is not a before-and-after story.
It’s a continuum.
And every chapter deserves to be seen.
