Moody Candlelit Couple’s Session in Richmond

Studio setup with draped white fabric backdrop. Candles all around and a sheer white curtain opening up to the set.

I’m excited to share this Moody Candlelit Couple’s Session with you, photographed in my Richmond studio. There’s something magnetic about candlelight.

The way it flickers, softens edges, and draws you closer. This session was all about leaning into that intimacy and creating something that felt timeless, romantic, and unapologetically bold.

I had the honor of photographing this incredible couple in Richmond. A couple I know personally. A couple who I call ‘family’. I wanted something that felt like a celebration of their love: authentic, moody, and unapologetically queer. The result? A session full of warmth, shadows, and connection that feels like stepping into a painting.

Setting the Scene in my Richmond studio

I transformed the studio into a dreamscape for this moody candlelit couple’s session. Candles against draped fabric, casting a golden glow over everything. It was less about posing and more about letting them simply exist together: touching, laughing, leaning in, and holding space for each other. The outfit choices were put together to create a beautiful juxtaposition of dark and light, strong and soft, moody and light. Every detail was intentional to creating something that felt magical.

Why This Session Matters

Representation matters. Love in all its forms deserves to be seen, celebrated, and remembered. Sessions like this aren’t just about creating pretty pictures. They’re about capturing something beautiful. Something meaningful between two people and the love they share.

Creating Your Own Intimate Session

If the mood of this session speaks to you, the great news is you can absolutely capture that same energy in your own shoot. Whether your vibe is bold and editorial, quietly tender, or a little bit of both, it all comes down to creating a space where you can fully be yourselves.
