Boudoir was the catalyst for my self-love journey. It made my life richer.
Wild, right?! How can a photo session change your life?
I grew up truly believing that I was the “ugly duckling” or unlucky one in my family. A lot of it stemmed from years and years and years of bullying. Hearing people say mean things to me over and over again. Those thoughts shaped the way I thought of myself, and that shaped the way that I saw myself.
It wasn’t until I received my photos back from a (personal) boudoir session that it clicked in my head that I am beautiful. I am radiant. Did that realization immediately change my life? No. Why? Because that realization deeply challenged everything I believed about myself for 20+ years. But I now had proof and a reminder of my beauty. Something I didn’t have before.
It took that moment of realization to acknowledge that I am worth looking AND feeling good. I am worth investing in myself and experiencing nice things. I am worth being taken care of and glammorous. Most importantly I am worthy of it right now, just as I am.
That realization pushed me to do things that matched my worth and to stop holding myself back from all of the things I constantly thought I was too (by society’s standards) undesirable to do. Each and every thing I did was out of my comfort zone.
So how did this lead to a richer life? Stepping out of my comfort zone and challenging my beliefs, constantly, built confidence and that has EMPOWERED me. Showing up more confidently has made sooooooo much room for vulnerability, healing, love and pure happiness. I am able to be more present. Knowing and being sure of who I am helps me to not project my insecurities onto others. I am intentional with the people I share my time with.
When I look at the relationships I have in my life right now, I see – respect, pure intentions, inspiration and acceptance. It took loving myself to truly open myself to love. Love in the capacity that I forever longed for and deserved.
And when I think of the catalyst to this beautiful place I am at in my life, it always leads me back to being in the boudoir studio and freely expressing myself, feeling beautiful and for the first time ever, SEEN!
